I had originally planned it to just be a side story in The Black Marker Detective, but as I developed the story more and more I decided that it should really be it's own comic.

The idea was to do my own take on Alice in Wonderland, which happens to be one of my favorite books. I know there have been many, many different comics showing someone else's take on that story, but I wanted to do it anyways. I can assure you there has never been one "quite" like what I have planned.

This comic, which is furry, being set in the same world as my core three, (Black Marker Detective, Confessions Of A Teenage Carnivore, Fox Chicks) depicts Alice as a delusional young cheshire cat who dies and gets caught up in the politics of the underworld. Depicting Wonderland as the afterlife has been done before in a comic I will not mention due to the nature of it's content, but as far as I am aware never in a comic that can be enjoyed by everyone.

You can expect to see most of the characters from Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass popping up in different incarnations throughout my comic as well as a few passing nods to other people's incarnations of the characters. So a little knowledge of Alice and her many adventures will come in handy, but isn't necessarily needed.

One other thing I'm doing with this comic that I personally have never done before is that the comic is being told in two different formats. The parts with Alice are hand drawn in my normal style, but I am also switching back and fourth between that and the story of the author who is writing the comic (a fictional version of myself). The parts about the author are shown as a photo comic to differentiate between the real world and the world of the comic. Although I'll let you in on a little secret... Eventually the those two worlds won't be quite so easy to tell apart.

For the photo comic parts I am in fact playing the fictional version of myself, and finding that a photo comic is not as easy as it sounds. Not only was there the hassle of changing my appearance for the character, but also of making sets. If the character is a slob I can't very well show him in a clean room, can I? And making a truly messy set to take the photos in is a lot harder then you think. Thank god I have a basement...Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-48829470589692364262011-04-24T13:06:00.000-07:002011-04-24T14:23:43.506-07:00New Horror Comic?
Let's talk about horror anthology comics for a moment. These little jewels have become something of a lost art in recent years, but I'm very happy to see that they are starting to make a comeback. A comeback that I intend to help contribute to.

Back in the 1950s horror anthology comics like Tales From The Crypt actually became so popular the FBI was called in to investigate. But Tales From The Crypt, while the most popular, was not the only horror comic on the news stand. There were a number of other horror comics spanning from the early 1950s to the early 1980s. EC Comics, who published Tales From The Crypt also Published such titles as The Haunt Of Fear, The Vault Of Horror, and The Crypt Of Terror.

But EC wasn't the only one pumping out the thrills and chills. Well known companies who are still around today, such as Marvel and DC had there share of horror comics on the market. Marvel produced a now little known comic called Monsters On The Prowl while DC started the "House Of" craze.

With their famous hosts Kane and Able DC ran the titles House Of Mystery and House Of Secrets from 1951 to 1987. Although Kane and Able themselves didn't come in until about half way through the series they were really what made it in my own opinion.

But House Of Mystery and House Of Secrets weren't the only comics out there to bare the "House Of" title. There was Elvira's House Of Mystery, House Of Horror, House Of Hammer, Hammer's House Of Horror, House Of Terror, Secrets Of Haunted House, Secrets Of Sinister House, even Sinister House Of Secret Love. And those are just the ones I know about. There very well may have been more then that...

These comics weren't just popular because that's what was in at the time... I mean... that IS what was in at the time... but there was more to it then that. These comics were actually GOOD. There's a reason House Of Mystery #1 sells for $676.00 on the collectors market today. Sinister House Of Secret Love #1 for $190.00 Even later issues of Tales From The Crypt, such as Tales From The Crypt #36 sell for $242.00 I own other comics that are just as old and didn't have to pay that much for them. These comics were really well done and are still fun to read even today.

Every time I walk into a comic shop or antique store and find an old horror comic I squeal like a little girl and run up to the checkout with it right away before anyone can see what I've found.

But then, in the late 1980s, these kind of comics just stopped. There may have one new title here and there, never lasting more then a few issues, and naturally the reprints of just about every single comic EC Comics had ever made... Bu
t you just didn't see them in the numbers, or even quality, that we had in that wonderful stretch of time from 1950 to 1987.

But now, I am happy to say, that the horror comics are making a come back. In 1996 DC launched a new House Of Secrets series. It only lasted 25 issues, ending in 1998, but it paved the way for the release of a new House Of Mystery series in 2008. One which is still going strong to this day and actually really good.

I have only just started reading the new House Of Mystery, buying the first year of issues and reading them all in one sitting, and so far I LOVE this comic. It's like being taken back to the day when these kinds of comics were at the top of the game. But this comic takes it one step further then that. It brings back the horror anthology genera while at the same time adding an ongoing story with a set group of characters. And let me tell you that this is a story worthy of the name "House Of Mystery". It keeps you twisting and turning every which way so every time you think you have it figured out, you... don't.

After only the first issue I was hooked.

And that brings me to where I am now. I have always loved these kind of comics, as this post should have made clear, and have always wanted to do one myself. So I figure now that DC is doing it's best to bring the old horror comics back (and doing a very nice job of it) it's the perfect time for me to do one myself.

The Black Marker Detective is about to end, but I want to keep telling stories about it's characters. So what I'm going to do, I've decided, is start my own horror/mystery anthology comic to pick up where The Black Marker Detective leaves off. That way the story doesn't really end and I'm able to do my dream comic without adding on a lot of extra work.

I figure if I'm going to do this kind of comic I may as well go all out and pick a "House Of" title. So I'm happy to announce officially that this year I will be ending The Black Marker Detective and launching The House Of Conundrum.
Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-16354236017432549832011-04-12T10:53:00.000-07:002011-04-12T11:43:57.762-07:00Swamp Thing
Talking about Professional comics for a moment, instead of web comics, I have just started reading the 2nd Swamp Thing series, known as The Saga Of The Swamp Thing. This is the one that was written (mostly) by Alan Moore, who is most famous for The Watchmen. Moore didn't take over Swamp Thing until issue #20, and Swamp Thing didn't really become famous until Moore took it over... and it's easy to see why.

I wasn't a big fan of Watchmen (Except for Rorschach) but this thing in incredible. I would put it right up there with Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

It's hard to believe that a comic about a walking heap of swamp mess could be as thought provoking, touching, or suspenseful as this comic is. Let me set you straight. This comic was not intended for children. It has a little warning right on the cover stating "Suggested For Mature Readers". (Or at least most of them did) But it's not just because the content sometimes involved sex and nudity. I really can't see many kids WANTING to read this. The story would be too boring to their young minds, unable to comprehend the complexity of what's going on.

This comic was published under the DC name brand and was later moved to DC's Vertigo name brand after it was established. But this was clearly a Vertigo title all along. Characters that old school DC fans will be familiar with appear in it here and there. Swamp Thing, Deadman, The Phantom Stranger, and Etrigan seem to make a favored team... But characters fans of Neil Gaiman's Sandman will recognize show up as well.

I will give a slight word of warning to anyone who may be interested in this comic though. As much as I love it, it can get a little weird at times. Weird as in Alan Moore must have been dropping acid when he wrote it then decided to share with the artists... But only at times. Although I would recommend skipping #78, unless you WANT to see one of the most bizarre and awkward sexual moments in comic book history. The kind that makes you go, "Why did I read that...?"

And after peaking your interest like that you will probably shoot me if I end it there and leave you wondering, won't you? Long and short of it... Swamp Thing's girlfriend gets him pregnant and he gives birth to himself. No really...Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-29328486514642979012011-04-10T15:01:00.000-07:002011-04-10T15:31:16.514-07:00Web Comic Review: Real GirlsI haven't done a review on a new comic in a while so I think it's about time.

Real Girls is a comic I have just come across which is still in it's early stages, but from what I have seen so far I'm expecting big things from it. The story is about two girls who aren't "really" girls, making the title a bit of a humorous farce. Alex is a male to female trans-gender, who doesn't have any friends because of what she is, who happens upon a malfunctioning android girl named Kayla wandering the street with a bullet hole in her head. Feeling sorry for the overly cheerful (considering her owner just shot her in the head) android, Alex takes her home with her and has the guy across the hall (who happens to work on androids) fix her up as best he can.

It doesn't take long for us to find out that Kayla is an illegal prototype who probably belonged to some kind of crime boss and was shot in the head because she had seen too much, giving us an actually interesting story. That and the fact that said crime boss knows Kayla is still active and is more then likely looking for her. The story flows along very well in a way I rarely see outside of professional comic books and/or manga. Even the side characters have well written back stories that are seamlessly worked in without affecting the flow of the overall story.

The art is simplistic yet well done and a joy to look at. The artist has a clever way of mixing gritty with cute. Even I, as a straight man, can't help but find Alex to be just adorable. Adorable enough to overlook the fact that she's still technically a dude and just enjoy the comic for what it is without bringing my own sexuality into question...

On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Real Girls an 8 with room to grow. If you want to check it out for yourself just click on the link to it in my Recommended Reading sidebar.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-66430017884538772262011-04-09T17:17:00.000-07:002011-04-09T17:30:57.589-07:00Just some updates...It's been quite a while since I posted anything in here and I haven't worked on any of my comics much either. I seem to spend most of my time at work or asleep. With so little time left to myself working on comics takes a back seat to things that keep me happy. Because if I don't do anything that makes me happy I'll end up trying to kill myself... again... (Prescription drugs only go so far) Sure, I like making comics, but it starts to feel like another job after a while and I get burned out on it. So I'm taking it slow and doing what I can when I can without stressing myself too badly.

I've also needed some free creation time that I don't get with my Black Marker Trinity, (The Black Marker Detective, Confessions Of A Teenage Carnivore, Fox Chicks) so I've started two new comics. One where I can be serious and moody, and one where I can just have fun. You'll be able to find them both in the links to my comics here on the site. Neither of them have any set updating schedule. I'll just be updating them when I get the time.

I've also been reading a few new web comics (new to me anyways) seeing as a few of my favorites have ended. So I'll be adding them to the links as well and probably be doing a few reviews.

That's pretty much all until I start posting something real.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-67522964943675155242010-04-19T09:19:00.000-07:002010-04-19T09:25:25.169-07:00What's this?!<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3z7Bo4-1q2RpZr_sp71_gW4Z99VfoTRumTgBLrtUTk5s0d9hMqMnqiXa0dbdOvl_N7kTEqDZ7zfjpV1sFWf5bd55KwnTuMDLGUtaRGcSZCl7oEXHIQDONNkmZLkDODkxl_Wwsd8CGFqYG/s320/2008-12-15-%5B0016%5D-the-right-decision.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461885470257949618" />
I can't believe it! It only makes since we would start to see it in comics more and more...

Any way, check out Sandra and Woo. It's a cute comic that reminds me of a modern Calvin & Hobbs. As seen by a whole month with no new pages going up in any of my comics... I even added Moldy Fox as one of the authors to Fox Chicks and the comic still hasn't updated any. But then Moldy has always been a slacker.

Maybe I can get some work done today.

Oh, but funny thing. I did a page to Black Marker Detective last night and found that after not drawing anything for over a month my hands have forgotten what they were doing. Chaku came out kind of funny looking. The next few pages will probably be quite interesting.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-75370937057251559642010-02-23T06:58:00.000-08:002010-02-23T07:49:50.480-08:00Con NoogaI'm back from Con Nooga and I have to say it was amazing. After three years of MTAC and all it's bull shit, Con Nooga was a much needed breath of fresh air.

First of all, the con was huge. MTAC has always been crammed into three little halls and two main rooms from which all the other rooms sprouted. It's small. Way smaller then it should be considering the con just gets bigger every year. It outgrew that building two years ago and they are still using it. Con Nooga on the other hand is held at the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel which is an old converted train station. The place was huge. So big you could actually take a shuttle buss from one side of the con to the other if you didn't want to walk. Maybe that's not so impressive for some of you, Dragoncon goers come to mind. But for a small con guy like me it was pure sekky. I'll never go back to crappy MTAC again.

Not only was it big but there was actually a lot to do. So much that I couldn't go to all the events and panels I wanted to. I didn't even have time to go to the Traditional Vs. Webcomic panel, and I'm a webcomic author! It's not your crappy, commercialized, give us your money and we'll let you walk around in circles all day while Staff yells at you for every little thing, con like MTAC has become. I don't even remember what I did last time I went to MTAC. Did I do anything other then walk around... Oh I saw a cosplay strip show... I think that was it. It's all I remember anyways.

Another thing this con had going for it that MTAC doesn't... It's not a daycare where 500+ kids get dropped off by their parents and are left to run wild for the weekend. God I loved not having to deal with that kind of crap. A mature con within driving distance, finally!

So far all I've been doing is comparing Con Nooga to MTAC. Which is okay. MTAC needs to be bashed a little. But let me tell you a bit about what was actually going on.

Con Nooga is a Multi Fandom Convention, or as my associate, Eko, (who I went to the con with) kept saying, an Everything Convention. I kept getting onto her about that beacuse it's not an "everything" con. There weren't any lumberjacks there... But what it is, is an all things geek convention. It's a Sci-Fi con, a Furry con, an Anime con, a Horror con, a Comic Book con, a Steampunk con, and a Gaming con all rolled into one. (I hope I didn't leave anything out)

Panels and Events ranged from Fursuit Construction, Meet The Chattanooga Rollergirls, Make Your Own Damn Movie (hoasted by Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Entertainment), Steampunk Round Table, Bigwheel Rally, Texas Hold 'em tournament, LARPing, Bellydancing, and room parties galore, just to name a few. Let me put it this way. I haven't had this much fun, or had this many things to do in one place, since I went to Disney World. And better then Disney World, everywhere I went cool and/or hot chicks were always inviting me to room parties. *Grins*

I can't possibly cover everything in one post so I'll post more about little things here and there in coming weeks. But for now, here's some of the Bellydancing show put on by Yard Gnome Productions. I filmed this but the video was put together bt Eko who cut some of it out. So after I get the files from her I'll make my own video. But until then...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGXVUZU5_9g

((Sorry I can't give it to you as a link. But that doesn't have anything to do with my comics so I'll move on to the other two things that have happened.

#2, I have taken on help with my comic "Fox Chicks" http://foxchicks.smackjeeves.com/ Moldy Fox, an old friend of mine who can't draw any better then I can, is now the comic's secondary author. She's a bit more twisted and weird then I am (I blame the drugs) but I think she'll bring some good stuff to the comic.

#3, The other thing, which is something I just noticed. Is that my old Webstarts.com page is no longer working. When I try to go to it I get this white screen with a message telling me that I do not have permission to access the page. Why wouldn't I have permission to access my own webpage? And when I went to the webstarts home page and tried to log in it wouldn't ever recognize my log-in info.

I knew I hated webstarts but since I already had the page built figured I would go ahead and keep using it as a sort of home page for my three comics. The thing that pisses me off the most though is that I still used the link page on that thing to keep track of the webcomics I read. Bugger!Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-68740597875517779972010-01-23T21:19:00.000-08:002010-01-23T21:35:31.457-08:00Draw With MeSo I took a short break from my comics. There were a few weeks with no updates. If you were wondering about the last post in this blog... that was the reason. Seeing your favorite character in your (almost) favorite comic get killed off can sort of kill the urge to draw. And speaking of depressing things that will kill the urge to draw... watch this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvjZ6VkLuCM

But the good news is I'm back to work again on not just The Black Marker Detective, but also on Confessions Of A Teenage Carnivore and Fox Chicks. Also I'm looking at the idea of taking a partner for Fox Chicks. The comic is the only one I don't have a set plan for so it wouldn't hurt to let someone else help out and do some pages. That way it would least update a bit more.

I contacted an old internet friend of mine who is also a Furry and likes to do comics; Moldy Fox. I haven't talked to Moldy in a while but I asked her if she would like to come on to Fox Chicks with me? Her art style is different from mine yet at the same time similar so it should work well. I just hope she's not too busy to do it.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-2231481398737050022009-12-12T10:18:00.000-08:002009-12-12T10:43:50.783-08:00F**k the gods!

I'm heartbroken. Good thing I have tomarrow off from work.

But back to Shinju... I know us artists have a reputation of being eccentric and/or half crazed that we need to keep up, but I don't think I'm even good enough to be called an artist. So why the heck did I have to go and fall in love with a character in a dating sim...? I guess it's better then cutting off my own ear, right? When I die I can still go and hang out with Vincent van Gogh and not feel out of place.

Vincent van Gogh: You say you're an artist? I cut off my own ear! In addition to making comics I'm also a writer who spends all day sitting in front of a computer hacking out page after page of fiction. Especially now that I'm working on my new children’s book... And I've always been as mad as a March Hare... So with no time for real life romance (and being as lonely as I am) I should have known better then to play a game where the whole point is to fall in love with one of it's characters. A half crazed little fellow like me is only more then likely to let his feelings in the game get confused with his feelings in the real world.

I don't even know why I'm sharing this really... It's not like the few readers I have really need to know just how trippy the author really is. Oh well. After time I'm sure this will eventually pass and I'll find some other way to express my insanity. I'm still young and have plenty of time yet to cut off my own ear. Sad thing is though, I'm not sure I really want it to pass...

*Sighs and goes off to build a creepy shrine to Shinju in his basement*
Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-14523572710180348172009-08-09T19:47:00.001-07:002009-08-09T19:56:44.243-07:00I'm mad as hell! Why am I mad as hell? I shouldn't be... I took advantage of the tax-free weekend get a new computer. (which I have been in need of since my last one crashed almost three years ago...) So I should be very happy. Finally I can work on my comic and other things on my own computer instead of having to borrow my brother's every time. At least I should have been able to... But no! The thing came with Windows Vista! Mother yiffing Windows Vista! Which, by the way, can't communicate with my scanner/printer! So I still can't work on my comic on my computer! I still have to borrow my brother's. Which means my progress is still slower then it should be and I still won't be updating COATC this week!Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-34938252756204747942009-08-05T08:58:00.000-07:002009-08-05T09:00:44.171-07:00makes me mad...God I really need to work on getting some more pages up in Confessions Of A Teenage Carnivore. The old chapter 7 would have been Shadow's 2nd trip into the afterlife, but that's being pushed back a chapter now. My long time friend DJ Crimson Fox and I are now putting together a crossover story with his characters.

He has a cast of well developed characters and story line for them, but has never used them for anything. I keep telling him do a comic or if you can't draw and don't have the cash to hire an artist, do some text fiction. But he never does so now I'm helping him get his characters into print.

It will be a bit interesting seeing as his characters are so drastically different from my own. They work at/run a clothing company for women who's attributes are much bigger then what is considered normal. So all of the female characters are very, very large, if you get what I am saying...? The idea was to have some kind a mystery happen there at the company that Shadow would get hired to figure out. The script is coming along nicely, but I'm not sure how it's going to turn out when it comes time to draw the comic. I'll make it work but I'll be outside my comfort zone. I'm not use to drawing girls built as heavily as his characters.

Is short, boobs so big a blind man couldn't miss them will be a new, and challenging experience for me.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-83385768424120587582009-07-28T18:36:00.000-07:002009-07-28T19:33:44.810-07:00Colored PencilsAnyone who's ever read The Black Marker Detective should know that the whole comic is drawn in black markers with certin details colored in with colored pencils. I'm not going to pretend I didn't get the coloring idea from Frank Miller's Sin City. I did. And I chose to use colored pencils instead of coloring it digitally because I think it adds to the rough, I want to say gritty, look of the comic.

But I've come up with a little problem now thanks to my choice. The colored pencils I used for Chaku's hair and Nolly's eyes, hair, and nose were two heavily used stubs I dug out of a box of crayons and pencils just becaused I likede how the colors looked on paper. The names of the colors were long gone and only the one used for Nolly still had a brand name on it. Pentech. A brand I have never heard of before. Chaku's pencil only has made in China left on it.

Now both pencils are almost gone. Used down to the nub. And I can't seem to find replacements for them. I haven't really looked into every color Crayola offers, but seeing as I'm pretty sure Chaku's pencil wasn't a Crayola I have been trying to stay away from that brand. It's easy to tell because Crayola goes on very smooth, not at all like this one I've been using. It has to be a cheaper brand. And I can't even find Pentech pencils. Do they even still make those things? So I have been looking through RoseArt. I picked up their 64 count box of crayons, and their 72 count box of colored pencils. Yet I can't find a match for either of the pencils I need to replace.

For Chaku I'll probably be able to make due. I found that RoseArt's Emeralg Green is very close to the color I've been using for her hair. But I'm having no luck at all with Nolly. The Pentech pencil I have been using has been sharpened from both sides (who does that?) so while the name of the brand is still there, the name of the color is gone. I would guess it to be something like a Neon Pink, but even in a 72 count box RoseArt has nothing like it. I found that if I mix Cerise and Orchid I get something close, but you can still see the difference and it doesn't quite pop like the other one did. I don't know what I'm going to do. I like the color I already have for Nolly and don't want to change it. The comic will out-last the pencil so if I can't find someone who sells Pentech pencils I'm going to be screwed!Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-41757078574425348272009-07-18T13:20:00.000-07:002009-07-18T13:27:27.377-07:00

I just looked at the stats for my comic (TBMD) and found out that the page "Baby Bump" is the highest rated page in the whole comic. How or why I do not know. I don't know what's so great about that page. I mean, yeah, it's a big turning point in the story, and I liked how the bottom left hand frame looked. The shadowed image of Agent Billings shooting Bernard was really cool looking I thought. But the page was kind of strange looking and I was never really sure about it. But if people like that page okay then. I guess I don't even know what's good and what's not.
Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-3372115215355753322009-07-18T13:12:00.001-07:002009-07-18T13:17:42.706-07:00Almost done!As the title of this post says, I'm almost done! With what? The prologue to chapter 5 of The Black Marker Detective. It will take up this week and the next week. So you will have to wait two weeks before we get back into the actual story. But I'm almost finished drawing it. So that means I will have two weeks to work on comic pages before I have to worry about updates. I'm so happy! If I work really hard I can get back on a normal schedule again and won't have to stay up late into the night working on comics. Then I can get some work on COATC done too!Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-83750211235173745522009-07-17T11:55:00.000-07:002009-07-17T12:00:08.060-07:00Online gaming...Blast you online gaming! I need to get up to speed in my comic pages. That's why I was doing the pointless prologue thing in The Black Marker Detective. But I'm not getting up to speed at all. I'm playing Shin Megami Tensei Imagine instead. Why are online games so addictive?Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-43310830985673224572009-07-14T12:47:00.000-07:002009-07-14T13:23:50.810-07:00COATC & TBMDI finally got around to putting up Confessions Of A Teenage Carnivore. I had put the comic idea on the shelf and started working on a different comic, but when I found out that the name I wanted to use was already taken and couldn't come up with a different name I liked I put that one on the shelf and took COATC back down. There are only two pages up at the moment, I had the first 5 pages drawn but it was in a different art style and when I decided that COATC would in fact take place in the same world as The Black Marker Detective I had to re-draw all the pages in the same style as that comic. I also hate drawing the same page more then once. So that's why new pages of COATC are slow coming. But once I get through the first 5 pages it should start to be a pretty good comic. Or at least I hope. I for one really like the idea I have planned out for it. It's just a matter of if my readers will stick with it long enough to see the actual story, or if they will stop after the first 5 pages saying, "Eww... This is a yucky vore fetish comic!" and stop reading.

It's really not a vore fetish comic. Well... okay it is... But that's not all it is. It's more of a deeply emotional (and slightly controversial) drama that just happens to double as a vore fetish comic for allegorical purposes. That's what I intended for it to be anyways...

And on a 2nd note, I have finally made it into chapter 5 of The Black Marker Detective. The prologue that went up today is will last a few more pages before we get back into the story. I know it's slightly annoying. You may be saying, "But I just read the last chapter! Why do I need you to fill me in on what I just read?"

Well there are two reasons I'm doing this. The first is that there are a number of things I want to point out and/or say that I can't really do without either branching off on pointless tangents or breaking the 4th wall. And since breaking the 4th wall and having Hoofy explain it to you is faster I went with that.

The other reason, and the biggest one, is that I'm very behind in my work. I have been finishing the pages for TBMD the day they are scheduled to go online. That's not healthy for the comic or my nerves. I use to have the pages done 5 or 6 in advance... Doing this prologue allows me to finish a page with only drawing two images and sticking in some text. It's fast. I can build up a number of pages that are ready to go online. And I can get up to speed and fave time to actually work on the new pages instead of rushing them like I have been doing. With the fact that I'm now drawing a lot more background then I use to I'll need that extra time.

Yes... I know I pretty much just said that I'm A lazy bastard and the prologue is just a way for me to take it easy for a while, but that's how it is. So deal with it for a few weeks.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-79132744679524907192009-07-06T13:19:00.000-07:002009-07-06T13:36:29.186-07:00Naked multiple limb amputee hanging from the ceiling...The Black Marker Detective took an interesting turn last night when I was drawing the new page. You can see it tomorrow when it goes up. But when I drew a naked multiple limb amputee hanging from the ceiling by a chain I thought, this may be getting a bit twisted, even for me. Now yes, parts of the comic that take place in hell are going to be a bit twisted. It's hell. But tomorrow's page just has me looking at my work a bit differently. It's one of those moments where you finish a page, pick it up and look at it, and say, "Where the hell did that come from?"

I don't know why I'm only doing this now. I have a whole story arc that will be coming up in another two chapters that takes place in hell. (Most of it is already drawn) There's twisted stuff in that one. But this is the first time I have drawn naked amputees and there's just something about thr whole experience that has me a little weirded out.

I guess maybe it's one of those, "I did not know that about you" moments, only I'm saying it to myself...

Oh and don't worry. The comic is not going to turn into another "Jack". Not that that's a bad thing. Jack is the greatest comic I have ever read. But it's not what my comic is meant to be.Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-64145281403709125822009-06-29T14:54:00.000-07:002009-06-29T15:16:33.423-07:00Taking an un-called-for break... (or three)I have been down in my little work studio trying to get some work done on TBMD but I keep stopping and putting it off. Right now I'm taking a break from work to up-date this blog now that I know there is actually some one reading it. At least I hope this is the blog the girl I work with told me she started reading. If she found my other 'personal' blog, the one I keep for my closest friends, I could be in some trouble. There is stuff in that one I wouldn't want people in Kroger, or even the state of TN, to know about.

But back on topic, I still haven't finished the page that is scheduled to go up tomorrow. Yet this is my third break today. First I took a break to go to Kroger and file a complaint about Mrs. Smith and while I was out I stopped by Wal-Mart to grab some new marker pins. I hate Wal-Mart. I would much rather go to Office Max. But they are the only place who has the pins I like to use. And wouldn't you know it, they didn't have them any more... Why is it every time I find a marker pin I really like every one stops selling it by the time I need my first replacement? I guess I'll have to go back to using Sharpy Pins again, but I never really liked them.

When I got back I did a little more work on the page then took another break and ended up watching Digimon. And it wasn't even the good Digimon series either. I'm sitting there wasting time watching the crappy one.

Did a little more work... Took my third break to come up and post in this blog.

I don't know why I can't just sit and finish the page. I think I'm starting lose interest in the currant story arc. I better hurry up and get Shadow back to the land of the living before we end up with filler art where I was to lazy to draw a real comic page...Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-21895004585318326132009-05-28T09:41:00.000-07:002009-05-28T10:47:45.494-07:00Stop the presses!

I read a web comic called Concession. http://concessioncomic.com/ I like the comic, I really do, but the page I just read (#111) has just ruffled my fur. Now when I first started reading the comic I looked at the character profiles and noticed that it listed the sexual orientation and chosen religion of each of the characters. So I knew this would play a big part in the comic (or at least I guessed...). I didn't know (and still don't know) the orientation of the author, but seeing how most of the characters were either homosexual or bi-sexual I sort of figured it was going to be a pro-gay comic. And that's okay, you know. I don't have a problem with that. Freedom of speach and all that. I urge comic authors to write about whatever they want regardless of how others feel about it.

Except for those bastards at Softpaw Magazine! Burn them all! *Laughs at his own double standard*

But there are still some things I don't like. One of such things would be misrepresentation. (Look at the currant conversations between Shadow and Virgil in my own comic, The Black Marker Detective) And I came across two things that ruffled my fur in the before mentioned page of Concession.

First off, we have Father Timothy McNeil (who is like a Catholic priest I guess. He's Church of the Shepard but I took it to be his world's version of the Catholic Church) telling Matt that homosexuality is not wrong. I could simply write it off by saying 'Oh he's Catholic, what do you expect? He's probably sucking some poor alter boy's cock himself.' But this isn't the kind of priest Timothy is portrayed as.

You know, this is the same reason I hated Associated Student Bodies. If you are going to make a pro-gay comic fine, but why is it every time some one does they feel a need to show the church approving of the main character's choice? Because let's face it; the church does not approve... The christian religion does not approve... The Bible itself calls such an act "an abomination"! So I don't know why people keep doing this. Why not be realistic and show the church rejecting him instead? Do you really feel such a need to impress your views onto others who don't share them? I think I'll stop on this topic before I Really start ranting...

The other problem I had with the page came when Father Timothy says, "As long as no one gets hurt, you'll be fine." More misrepresentation. I happen to know very well that this isn't a christian teaching. In fact it sounds a lot like the Wiccan code of conduct which states "As long as no one is hurt, do as you will."

So did the author know what he was doing when he wrote this page? Because it seems to me that he's making the christian church (or the Catholic church at least) out into something it's not all so it can serve his own needs.

As I've made clear in other blogs, I'm against censorship and I am all for authors making comics about topics other people may or may not approve of. I love controversy. But misrepresentation is the same as slander. Having been the victom of slander before I don't like it when I see it. Some may think I'm just bashing on this comic for it's pro-gay statements since I'm not gay myself. But I don't care if anyone want to be gay or promote it in comics. I have every issue of Circles and I rather like the comic. That doesn't bother me. It's making one thing out to be something it isn't that bothers me, no matter what it is...
Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8753216958195305765.post-24600838183734787032009-05-26T09:48:00.000-07:002009-05-26T09:52:35.038-07:00VacationI didn't do any work over the Holliday weekend. It was sort of like taking a vacation from my 2nd job. I still had to work at my first job though... I was even a day late on one of my deadlines. Wow I'm lazy. But on the up side, Star Trek was really really good!Shaddy Lovencrafthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13504625299487763788noreply@blogger.com0
